Bodybuilding icon Lee Haney has been elected Honorary Ambassador for Joe Weider's Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend 2021. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the night when Haney broke Arnold Schwarzenegger's record and won his 8th Mr. Olympic title, an achievement that earned him the award as the greatest of all time. This 1991 event also took place in Orlando, home of this year's Olympic weekend.
After retiring from the competition, Haney was named chairman of the presidential council for physical fitness and exercise by President Bill Clinton. As the author of three books, Haney has become a leading advocate for healthy living and spiritual growth while coaching countless athletes at all levels.
When informed of his election as this year's Ambassador of Honor, Haney said, “My Mr. Olympia titles have laid the foundation that will enable me to spend my life training and mentoring young men in all walks of life. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to compete in the biggest event in the world, and I am humbled by this incredible honor. "
Olympic President Dan Solomon added, “Lee represents so many of the positive values that all our champions can aspire to. He's used his fame to change lives in so many amazing ways. "
As the creator of the International Association of Fitness Science's certification program and recipient of the Arnold Lifetime Achievement Award, Haney's list of awards is long and impressive, including inductance into the International Sports Hall of Fame. The couple has been married to Shirley for 38 years and has 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Haney's daughter is called Olympia.
