Three years ago, WWE made history when the first women's royal rumble fell like a flying macho man's elbow on the wrestling world, instantly lifting the sport's glass ceiling.
Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch were the first to step into the ring at this opening event before nearly two dozen WWE Superstars entered the ring in succession. The boss fought and fought for almost an hour, reaching the Rumble Final Four before being tossed over the top rope by Nikki and Brie Bella as a tag team.
Three years later, Banks, who is now Smackdown World Champion, can watch the WWE Royal Rumble 2021 at the ring as the best women in WWE battle for this year's title. And despite the story written when Asuka won the first rumble in 2018, Banks says not much has really changed.
“We just keep doing the same thing. We'll keep growing, ”said Banks of the WWE women. "I just go in as a champion, more confident than ever ... and I can sit back and watch these 30 incredible women fight for the spot to see me. I don't need any additional hype for that."
On Wednesday, Banks will join last year's Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair, Natalya and Mickie James to discuss the groundbreaking women's Royal Rumble match during a round table broadcast on the WWE Network. "We can talk and remember the original Royal Rumble," says Banks. "It will be great to go back and remember the magic we created that night. I get to sit down with the legends."
In addition to the Women's Royal Rumble, which takes place this year at Fort Lauderdale's Thunderdome at Tropicana Field, Daniel Bryan will also headline the Men's Rumble at the WWE Royal Rumble. Also included in the crowded lineup are Bobby Lashley, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Otis, Jey Uso, Cesaro, Jeff Hardy, and Sami Zayn.
Also on the map is Champion Roman Reigns defending his Universal Championship against Kevin Owens and WWE Champion Drew McIntyre donning his belt against WWE Legend Goldberg.
Along with her title reign, the 2021 version of Sasha Banks is faster and stronger thanks to working with trainer Marcus Steele. She also added a new element to her regime, yoga and meditation, which made her calmer but far from less confident, and Banks says this year's competitors took a break with her from this year's Royal Rumble.
"If I were at the Royal Rumble now, I would be kicking all these girls out," says Banks. “My strength is so much more my conditioning. I just really feel like this year, I'm even better at my game. "
Banks' success has also led to the fulfillment of other dreams, including her role in the Disney Network hit The Mandalorian. "(" I've always had a big dream about being more and bigger than just WWE, and that's exactly what I'm doing. "She says). As a WWE Champion and Veteran, Banks is now able to offer advice to other women who want to pursue their dreams in the WWE.
"I tell everyone that when you have a dream, go after it with everything in your heart and most of all, you have to have fun and do it for yourself," she says. "You can only do it for yourself. I tell everyone that."
