Whether you spend your weekends looking for the beaten track or just trying to increase your stamina beyond 3 miles, you benefit from Helium, a new pro-level endurance training app. The app (available for download from the Apple App Store) is designed to work with the Apple Watch and goes beyond standard metric tracking to help athletes become better runners.
Mike Bernardo, the app's designer, says it was inspired by his own frustration as a new runner. After trying all the available running apps and gadgets, he still couldn't understand the ramifications of his efforts.
"I'm building Helium as the training app that I wanted," says Bernardo.
Helium analyzes the biometric data captured by your iPhone's IOS Health app and then creates a zone-based running plan tailored to your fitness level. It is designed for beginners and advanced users and offers a structured program rather than blind running programs. It's like having a treadmill in hand.

Helium makes it easy to hold your pace or track interval workouts while running. Haptic taps on your Apple Watch or sounds on your AirPods notify you when you should speed up or slow down. In addition to the number of steps and mileage, it also shows "cardio efficiency" to show how your fitness level changes over time. It's a better indicator if you're exercising proactively - in other words, if you work hard enough to see results: run longer, get faster.
Do you want to motivate yourself or inspire others to move? With Helium, you can create reps of your best runs to share on Instagram or Twitter. Who is ready to tackle an ultra?
