One of the goals of every bodybuilder is to be able to convert training into business success. It's not just about paying the bills this month. Long-term financial freedom must also be taken into account. Great examples of champions who ruled the business world are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jay Cutler. Another person whose role model could be is Kamal Elgargni, 2019 Olympia 212 champion.
He told Dennis James on this week's episode of The Menace Podcast that he attributes his financial freedom to making informed business decisions.
“I have two large gyms in Libya. They're doing very, very well, ”he told James. "I also have two supplement stores and properties here in the UK. I have other stores too, not just bodybuilding."
Although he worked hard to be in the position he is in, he was empathetic that for many athletes in the sport, this is not the case. His advice to them is to broaden their horizons away from sponsorship because it could cost them to rely on them.
“Many of these professionals only want to rely on sponsorship. Most of these companies that have been banned or closed have stopped paying their athletes. If you rely on one thing, you will crash, ”he said.
Another reason Elgargni's success is because he works hard in and out of the gym. That's why he was able to win the Olympics two years ago. Even at the age of 49, he's still confident of winning that title back and that's what his focus is currently on.
“To be honest, I'm going to train really hard. I've kept my state, I'm not really far from where I was. But I promise to bring something that is really as good as what we brought before. "
James and Elgargni also talk about his career in Qatar, the controversy surrounding his unfair non-compete clause, and more about his business success. James advised any fan or aspiring athlete looking to learn how to be successful in and out of the sport to watch this episode in full on the Muscle and Fitness YouTube channel.
