Scott Stallings packed his gear bag for his finest PGA Tour ever

While the game of golf is still decided on the course, there is so much more that goes into maintaining a top-notch level of play over the course of a season just by showing up at your tee time.

Scott Stallings turned pro in 2007 and has made fitness and training a necessity not only in the sport but also in his personal life. The three-time PGA Tour winner once weighed 257 pounds. While he played well, he didn't feel that way. He'd always had some form of training, but never incorporated any structure into his programming. When he decided to fine-tune his diet and training, he lost over 70 pounds in less than two years. With his physical transformation, his approach also changed.

Stallings' recent partnership with Momentous is just another way for the 37-year-old to ensure he is at his best before, during and after competition.

"You can't play the volume, travel, and expect to manage the ability to hold a high output," Stallings said. "The body just doesn't work that way. I am the perfect example. When I got there I did nothing. I thought as long as I play well it doesn't matter. Next thing you know, age and time add up and these are undefeated.

After a recent West Coast swing, Stallings unpacked some of his travel essentials and walked with M&F through his selection, which includes some of his Momentous favorites - including everything from products that help optimize sleep and cognitive performance to articles from his new golf package, which he developed together with performance expert Dr. Andy Galpin creates - Bull gear and the protein shaker that drives his caddy insane.

current fuel

That's my absolute goal. It's just an incredible resource to add to your meals. You'll be drinking water, and it's a great way to introduce some electrolytes and carbs throughout the day rather than having to eat constantly. The strawberry is my favorite flavor.

L-Glutamine, Creatine, Recovery, Fuel

This is part of a stack I put together. This is usually after training. I'll have this brew before I go to bed. I have a cardio session before the Pro-Am in the morning to make sure I can sleep through until my alarm.

Brain Drive, Rhodiola Rose Extract

Rhodiola helps with stress and how your body responds to it. Brain Drive is for the pre-tournament for cognitive function. Half my bag is for the pre and half for the post. The sleep pack is designed to help what you come down from what you have been doing on the front end to help your body wind down and get into that recovery mode. The diet part is huge, but the supplement is basically reversing your cortisol reduction. It doesn't necessarily do it for you, but it does help your body respond to it. When it gets into your body, I don't think about the five feet I had. I look at the back of my eyelids and that's it.

HWPO training app

It happened during the US Open in Boston. I trained with Bull CEO Marcus Wilson. We walked the course and he asked me if I could guide him through the way I train. We had practiced before, but it was always like a preprogrammed class and he had never seen me program a workout. We went to his gym in Chestnut Hill and I walked with him for about an hour. He didn't really say anything and I think he's trying to find a way to get me out of my contract and I made a big mistake. We have coffee and he said, "I'm trying to figure out how many of the things you made me do that I've ever done in my life and I can't think of a single time." He told me I had to do some programming.

HWPO CEO Matt O'Keefe was there and asked what it takes to get programming out there and I've had five years of programming stuff that I've made. I needed someone to help me condense it, run the day-to-day operations and manage it. In about a month he had the guy, I met him and we put it out. We've just scheduled our next 12 weeks and it's been really cool to introduce what I'm doing in my own life to the golf community who are trying to use fitness to improve their game. The workouts are all clock based and everything is built into the app to let you use the full extent of your possibilities. There are modifications and we are currently building a travel version. The biggest question is how do you train when you travel? If you don't travel for a living, you don't know how to do it. I take pride in programming and to be able to take something from the health and wellness space and bring that to golf is a no brainer.

Colgate Max Fresh Wisp

I have these everywhere. I have Invisalign. My wife made it first and I wish we had gotten them in stock. If you talk to someone with Invisalign, they will tell you that they always brush their teeth. I keep these in my golf bag and everywhere.

O'Keeffe's Working Hands

my hands are my life That's how I earn my living. This is the manliest hand lotion I can find. We play and practice so much. I also use my hands a lot when I train and they get hit. This is just to help make them a little more accessible instead of making it look like I'm putting them through a blender.

Bobo's Chocolate Chip Oat Bars and Larabar Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip

Those are constants and to be honest I wouldn't say those are my favorites in the world. But they are my favorites at the moment. I go through ebbs and flows and that was my lineup on the west coast. They're pretty clean and high in carbs.

Mentos pure white chewing gum

I chew gum all the time, especially when I'm working out and playing. My dentist doesn't like it because I take my Invisalign out, but I don't use my Invisalign when I play or work out. My wife always laughs because I put about four pieces in and then I brush my teeth before putting them back in.

Rx jump rope

I usually keep the snacks in the bag with my jump rope. I'll try to train quickly and maybe I haven't eaten. So I'm going to have something before I hit the gym to not put myself in a huge deficit where I go and eat everything in sight.

Voltrx Vortex Protein Shaker

This is probably the favorite thing I have. If you're a guy who doesn't want to carry all your powders, this is for you. A buddy of mine gave me one of these and I love it. My caddy hates it because it ends up in the golf bag quite a bit, but I love it.

Discipline is Destiny: The Power of Self-Control

I've had the opportunity to speak to Ryan Holiday a few times and share information about what we do. It offers a slightly different perspective when you go out there and compete at a high level. This is his latest book to come out. I always keep something he publishes relatively close because you don't really have to follow the book in order. You can pick up on any chapter and find something that hits you right between the eyes. He does a really good job of taking principles that were used thousands of years ago and making them applicable to life as a parent, husband, professional athlete, etc., where you don't take yourself too seriously and give yourself a little break, but also hold yourself to a higher standard.

Bull T-Shirt and Bull Quilted Crew Sweater

This is just a training shirt and the waffle sweater is my favorite. I literally had a guy in the crowd at the Pro-Am in Phoenix who asked if he could touch my sweater on the fourth tee. I said yes, but it was like, walk away from me afterwards (laughs).

Bull Horn's duffel bag

This was literally my bag to use on the west coast. The relationship with Bull has changed lives and careers. It's shocking how many people wear Bull to tournaments. Being able to bring the brand into the world of professional golf is something I'm very proud of and doesn't take lightly. It's something that's an integral part of everything I do. My daughter always makes life difficult for me. She'll ask me, "Bull today, dad?" It's pretty much Bull every day [laughs].
