5. The plyo push-up

Why it is so effective: There's probably no better strength builder than the humble push-up, so amplify the strength component by exploding up from the bottom of the exercise. Do a few of these in one set and you'll see how tough this exercise can get.

How it goes: Just like your standard push-ups, but with more power when pushing. (It's the same idea as clapping a push-up, only without clapping.) In a push-up position, place your hands about shoulder-width apart. Make sure your shoulders are "stacked" over your hands and that your elbows are snug against your body and not flared. Explode high enough to lift your hands off the ground, then land softly and evenly.
